About HP

Hewlett-Packard was founded in 1939 by Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard. From their humble beginnings of a garage in California, they are now one of the worlds largest personal computer and peripherals vendor in the world by units sold – a category in which they were #1 from 2007 to 2013, before relinquishing the title to Lenovo. They also maintain an extremely strong position within the computer accessories market, selling items such as monitors, printers, keyboards and mice.

Their range of laptops, which is sold to consumers under to HP Pavillion line, currently includes no less than 27 laptops, which range from budget end machines to high end solutions for those who require serious performance on the fly. This is no mistake on HP’s part. They have specifically not targeted a certain niche as they know they are in a position to be competitive across the board. Their brand, reputation for quality and the ongoing value for money has proven to be a big enough draw for customers over the last few years to keep them at the pinnacle of the industry.

It’s important to note that while HP does have a massive presence within the budget end of the market, the majority of their business within it is done under the brand of Compaq – a former Fortune 500 company that they acquired in 2002 in a multi-billion dollar deal. This has enabled them to maintain the appearance of a high end brand with HP, while still profiting from the lower ends of the market.

However, regardless of how good the system is, all computers need to be replaced eventually and laptops are even more prone to becoming outdated than desktops.
